Project

The Plasyfelin Primary School project demonstrates how intelligent design and advanced offsite manufacturing can support the delivery of high-performance, low-carbon educational facilities. As part of a wider Place Shaping programme, the new school will provide a sustainable learning environment while showcasing how innovative construction technologies can help public sector projects meet ambitious Net Zero targets.

Sector

Plasyfelin Primary School, currently under development by BAM Construction, will become Caerphilly County Borough Council’s first Net Zero school. Jointly funded by Caerphilly Council and the Welsh Government through the Sustainable Communities for Learning Programme, the development sets a new benchmark for sustainable education buildings in Wales.

Work officially started in September 2025 on the construction of a new state-of-the-art Net Zero school in Caerphilly. The new and enlarged replacement for Plasyfelin Primary School is being built within the current grounds of the existing site. The flagship £23million development will have capacity for 420 pupils, enhanced nursery and integrated childcare provision together with sporting facilities for use by the pupils and wider community.
