Fire Performance Testing
Our light steel frame systems undergo extensive fire performance testing to BS EN 1365, BS EN 1364 and BS 476, covering both loadbearing and non-loadbearing elements — achieving up to 120 minutes fire resistance.
120 minutes fire resistance achieved | 60+ fire tests successfully conducted
Innovation: UK first for floor penetration fire testing
Frameclad has successfully completed what is understood to be the UK’s first BS EN 1366-3 floor penetration fire test for a light steel frame construction assembly. The test programme included six different service penetration specimens within the floor system, each incorporating a unique configuration of Quelfire passive fire protection products. This enabled a comprehensive evaluation of fire performance across a variety of realistic installation conditions.
Structural resilience: Two-sided fire resistance in loadbearing walls
Working alongside the Steel Construction Institute (SCI) and members of the Light Steel Forum, we conducted two-sided fire tests on loadbearing light steel frame walls – following the principles of BS EN 1634-1 adapted for simultaneous exposure on both sides of a loaded wall. The result: 120 minutes of fire resistance, even under this extreme scenario. In the unlikely event of fire on both sides simultaneously, our systems can maintain structural stability for two hours.
Test data: An ever-growing body of evidence
Frameclad has successfully completed over sixty fire tests, and we continue to expand our dataset. Where appropriate, we collaborate with product manufacturers and industry partners on joint fire tests – broadening the scope of products and configurations covered.
